Our history
It all started with Juan, a passionate lover of boats and regattas. His passion for carbon fiber led him to
manufacture accessories for racing boats, thus founding his first company. He managed to take his love for
carbon fiber construction and boats around the world.
But fate had other plans, and at age 24, an accident changed his life in ways he never would have imagined.
Suddenly, Juan found himself facing his greatest challenge: learning to live with paraplegia from a
wheelchair.
Although his life took an unexpected turn, his passion and determination remained as intense as ever.
Without allowing circumstances to shape his path, Juan became the Argentine representative at the London
2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympics Games, competing in Yachting. Proving that passion and
determination have the power to overcome any obstacle.
But Juan did not embark on this journey alone, Clara, his wife and Physio Therapist, worked every step of
the way and together with a team of expert designers and builders, conceived the vision that brought WHEELIE
to life. They discovered the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of wheelchair users
and their families.
Thus WHEELIE was born, with a bold and defined goal: to design and manufacture the world's lightest
wheelchairs to empower thousands of users globally. They wanted to offer maximum autonomy and independence,
allowing people to move without limits.
We stand out for our unwavering commitment to excellence in design and construction. We build every chair
with an obsession for detail, and a desire to make a real difference in people's lives.
At WHEELIE, we don't just make wheelchairs. We create freedom, independence and empowerment.
